Regional Champions in National SGBV Activism Competition
Tamale Girls Senior High School has been crowned the Northern Regional Champions in the maiden 16 Days of Activism Against Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) national competition, receiving an award of GHC 16,000 in recognition of our outstanding efforts.
The 16 Days of Activism Against SGBV was a nationwide initiative launched on November 15, 2024, following a directive from the Ghana Education Service (GES), the Ministry of Education, and T-TEL. The call aimed to encourage Senior High Schools across Ghana to champion the fight against SGBV under the theme: “Safe Spaces, Empowered Voices, Ending Sexual Harassment in Our Schools.”
A School United for Change
At Tamale Girls SHS, the call was passionately embraced and spearheaded by the Guidance and Counselling Unit. Despite the limited time for planning and implementation, the school management, staff, and students came together to make an extraordinary impact. Through a series of 16 well-structured activities, we raised awareness, educated students and staff, engaged key stakeholders, and provided support to survivors of SGBV.
The enthusiasm of students in leading advocacy roles, the commitment of teachers, and the overwhelming support from partners contributed to the success of this initiative. Our collective determination not only empowered our school community but also extended our reach beyond the campus into homes, religious institutions, and the larger Tamale community.
