About the Language Department
The Languages Department of Tamale Girls Senior High School, seeks to promote the learning and nurturing of students in the acquisition of knowledge and unearthing talents. Over the years, we have successfully helped students develop the language competencies that enable them gain access to basic communication and interpersonal communication skills.
The overall goal of the department is to train students to become proficient listeners, speakers, readers and writers in some target languages, while gaining an appreciation for the culture, heritage and traditions of native speakers of the language. In addition, the study of languages will foster critical thinking skills through the interpretation, analysis and synthesis of masterpieces and contemporary works of literature in English, French and Dagbanli.
Moreover, the department enlightens the students to make connections between their world and other cultures and civilizations, as well as strengthen professional opportunities through multilingual intellectual skills as a model for success in the global society of the 21st century.
The Vision of the Languages Department is to create a vibrant language leaning environment dedicated to intellectual exploration and cultural exchange with an aim of developing students’ communicative and analytical abilities.
The Mission is to, among other things, expose the students to the literatures and cultures of languages in order to make them knowledgeable and sensitive members of global society.
The languages Department consists of fourteen (14) permanent staff and two (2) National Service Personnel: three (3) permanent female staff, two (2) female service personnel and eleven (11) permanent male staff. It is currently headed by Mr Kanyi Jonas.
